Gold filled GP

Did one of our members "win" it?
IMHO US $465.00 is quite a lot for a module declared non-working that shows signs of battery corrosion (though not too bad), in a beat-up case with worn-out bracelet...
With a new bracelet and a re-brushed case it could turn out quite nice - if the module still works.

J Thomas wrote:@rewolf, I remember reading in a post from you about your work in repairing a corroded GP module. A lot of skill and patience was needed, and, IIRC you were not 100% happy with your work afterward. That would be plenty to scare away me and most other novice tinkers from dropping that kind of money on a longshot.
Correct, and this is the very reason why didn't even for a second consider bidding on it. Not even 50$. I have learnt my lesson. Despite that, I don't like gold watches.
The bottom plate appears to be in rather good condition, so maybe the buyer took it just for this part ;-)

Hiya!

New to the site - thought I would let you know that I bought it.

I could not agree more - bit steep the 465 on ebay for the 'stone mason's apprentice' - certainly looks rough on the pics. Moment of madness brought about by this being the watch I have been hunting for (I have the ss and Macrolon versions in very decent condition). The only gold one that came up a year ago (non working) got for a slightly better price - then seller decided to be a ***** and it did not go through. No more seen until this.

It does get better though. Arrived well packed and with no import duty to my mum's in UK. Resent to me in Cairo - opened up package along with others I get months apart........open back - add batteries. Nothing. mmmm. Unscrew holding contacts and flicker of life! Remove module and put dirty case and bracelet in ultrasonic cleaner for 20 mins. Comes out looking much better if not a museum piece - gentle prising of button contact and shuffle around in the case. Hey presto! Full function, running perfectly.

Will post some pics when I get it a bit less rough. It is much better than you think....and I love it! The SS one is a cracker and it makes me sad that i dare not wear it!

Cheers,

Jon

$465 for a working GP now that's a bargain, so sometimes the gamble does pay off

Hi Led Head,
welcome to the forum!
Great to see you were lucky and the module is working :-D :-D. So this was really a bargain.
If possible, please post a nice photo of it together with your SS and Macrolon GPs.

BTW: I do wear my SS GP as well as I did wear the Macrolon (now sold). Not every day, and always with due care, but such a beauty HAS to be taken out from time to time ;-)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I expect to be regular - asking for information about things that are really beyond my abilities! I note in some of the posts (synchronars especially) - there really is some tech knowledge on here and I only dream about having the patience not to destroy the things that I have such high hopes for!

I have been buying for a few years, have most of the watches I want (except of course P1 and the elusive, sensibly priced, working chronosplit that is not 12k)....But have carelessly had wife and 2 kids and long hours job in the meantime.

I will post pics when the family are out so they don't see that the numbers have grown of my, mainly wearable, not many NOS / pristine. Faves include:

GP Casquette - now 3. Joy.
Omega TC1 WGF / TC2 YGF / Constellation SS
HP01 GF & SS
Synchronar Several complete non working - one original and still mainly working (shame funcionless reed means it will have to be opened) Plus loads of goo from Barry.
P2 SS & GF
P3 SS
P4 Big Time SS / Classic GF / Dress GF
Calc 901 GF / 902 SS
Mido Driver SS
CompuChron Calculator SS
Optel DSM SS / Field Effect Goldtone
Sicura Chronoflash SS

I expect some of you will recognise 'old friends' in the pics!

A couple of the above, various synchronars and several others await my courage to open - and ability to do something with.

Look forward to discussing with you soon.

Best regards,

Jon

Hi,

I have finally worked out that my pics were too big...and sorted. There are a few pics of some watches on my gallery now - including the GP Gold Fill.

Pics of Pulsars and Syncs and others..another time.

Look forward to discussing with you soon.

Best regards,

Jon
