How to write better ebay ads

Post13 Jul 2007, 03:30

Ok. I need constructive criticism here. Check out my current ebay item at Item number: 270143017281 and advise me on how to right more appealing adds.

An identical item sold last week for about $152, with worse photos, and looks to me not as good a watch. And I can't get a bid.

I thought about emailing the losing bidders on the previous auction, but that seem kinda crass, and probably violates some policy or other anyway.

Anyhow, you have my permission to be insulting if you like, just as long as what you say has the potential to make more money for me.

Your auction looks spot on to me, I'd be happy to put a bid on your watch but it's the reserve that puts me off I just don't like reserve auctions. I prefer to see what the sellers starting price is and take it from there.

Best offer might be an idea too, there's nothing like a good haggle...

Hi Corona with Lime,

Read your ad - here are my comments (1200 eBay transactions under my belt)

1. Sell international - As Majestyk and others on the forum have said - most LED sales are other than to the US and Canada - you probably eliminated 90% of your target market. LED watches are not a high eBay fraud area. I believe you will find most LED international watch buyers just great! Do read the eBay "Community" discussion forum on hints on selling internationally.

2. Can everything after you get through describing the watch (which is good as well as the pictures are fine). Most of what you have after telling about the watch; i.e. condition rating guide, comparisons, lengthy rules, feedback rules, etc is a big big turnoff ( at least to me). I would just hit the back button (which I am sure others are doing also) Simplify what your terms and conditions are. If you don't believe me - again just read the eBay "Communitity" discussion boards - you will see this lenghty mumbo jumbo also bugs many others.

Well that's my two cents!!

Good Luck!!!!!!

I agree with collector, sell internationally, the US-Dollar is extremely low compared to the Euro.
I noticed my bids are getting higher over the last year just because of the low Dollar.

Back in 2002 one Euro was 0.80 USD ( nice time for us europeans to sell ), now one Euro is 1.38 USD ( nice time for us to buy ).

I'd agree, the ad is a bit long....a simple link to the condition guide would be sufficient. International buyers are great...I've had dozens of sales from European buyers who are looking for certain items. Just be sure to use clean fresh boxes and printed labels - anything to make the deal look professional will keep customs off your back. And only ship one item per box - the customs people occasionally steal, but they won't leave a box totally empty.

How to write better ebay ads?
I have been wondering this myself.I am frustrated with the new system(had the old down) of listing which is not as clear and optional to me.Options to do this or that are not readily available and when you change description or something prior to photos it does not always update itself like it did the other times you edit.

Anyhow I have listed a retro Mk III with rare large angled digits tonight. However it is not the final draft that I assumed was going to be updated  How do you get a border when this so called simplified version won't allow it or show options like the old?
