Fake Watches on ebay, catena, jump hourse etc...

Post24 Jul 2008, 22:25

I've been stung  on ebay for the first time this week for a Catena Spacesonic ....and before all the wise people go....ahh yes...you mean the seller..... also known as..........paypal dispute ongoing....

Let me just say i was unwise, unknowing...and now a reader of this forum.

My point is, ebay does nothing about fakes. I have even spoke to Catena in Switzerland, who are mighty pissed off about these watches, and how they have informed ebay of this, and yet, even still they they keep coming up for sale. (Catena did inform me they will be reintroducing a modern spacesonic, sometime soon.....ooooooh exciting)

I think we can safely assume now that ebay, or a certain fraction of ebay, is corrupt, and happily selling copies and fakes, whilst passing them off as the original, new old stock etc....

Maybe we should have a rogues gallery, something showing what the original looks like, especially the movements which can't be faked so easily, and some images of copies, and knocked of Cr@p being sold on ebay.

In future i shall ask to see the movement (not sure digital watches have movements) as that is usually a good starting point for the authenticity of any watch.....

bugger.....[/b]

Sure do they have movements - but they don't move ;-)
Asking for a photo is a good idea, but will rule out many good opportunities. You won't get too many replies.
In case of the slightest doubt I always ask the seller something like "Can you assure it is original/made in 1977/not a remake/has its original movement, bracelet/....". The fakers either they don't reply at all or say "I don't have a clue about watches...". Never seen a plain lie.

Yep, i was conned by the "fakesonic" as detailed here:

http://dwf.nu/viewtopic.php?t=2732&highlight=catena

Thanks for the link to the thread. Off to email further complaints etc..

Funny thing is, my fakesonic has the same mobile phone sticker in it. Obviously the chinese factory makes mobile phone chargers as well. No "CE" mark either...tut tut...

Off to get the sticker translated by a chinese friend now....
