Non-original module in P3

Post12 Dec 2008, 06:25

Hello all,

Looking at this Date/Command on eBay:

Linky

And it looks like it has segments for the display instead of dot matrix. Could be a hybrid module?

Yes, it is a hybrid. It has a P4 module placed onto a P3 frame. You can tell by the position of the light sensor.

"...L.E.D.~LIGHT EMITTING DIODE MANS WIND-UP WRISTWATCH..."
Just confirms my prejudice against CAPS LOCK writers... or did he mean "F...ED UP"?

Question: the P4 (Classic anyway) has the buttons over and under the crystal. The P3 has it on the left and right of the crystal.
Putting a P4 module into the P3 case - how do the command buttons work in that set up?

I've seen that seller dealing with led watches many times so I'm sure he knows what he is selling...without telling it...

The P4 module has a PCB with display, light sensor, IC and trimmer(I think), all in one. He has used the P3 plastic carrier(which holds the P3 reeds in the correct place), so that you can't tell when looking at it from the batteries side. All that he has to do then is remove the old innards from the P3 carrier, and then attach the P4 unit, attaching the old reed switches, battery terminals and QC.

Better than a dead watch. Unless you can tell by the display style, it's hard to tell such a modification on Ebay, without pictures of the module. Unfair really, since the real value of the old Pulsars is in the original working module.......with some exceptions of course !

Rgds.
