Purchased: CompuChron calculator watch..thanks folks!

Post07 Sep 2006, 21:22

Hello everyone! I'm new here.

The reason I joined the board was to find a 1970's Compuchron red LED calculator watch.

Now here's the kicker: I don't care if it works. I don't care which color it is, gold or silver. In fact, if it didn't work I'd be happier. I don't need a working version at all.

The watch is to complete a costume. As you may know, the Compuchron calculator watch was used on the 1970's show Battlestar Galactica and worn by all the major cast members as part of their "space gear".

I am making a replica costume and would like to be as accurate as possible, so I decided to join here and talk to you experts about the subject.

My email is spcglider@aol.com

If you can help me find a reasonably priced non-functional copt of this watch, please drop me an email! I'd be ever so grateful!

-Gordon

You might try contacting the guy who runs http://www.watchismo.com/ - he might have one or know where to get one.

Best of luck with the costume, I've always liked Galactica.
LED watches are quiet and polite. No ticking, no tocking, no beeping, no buzzing; they will only tell you the time when you ask to see it and they will do so instantly with no attention-seeking animations. A more civilized watch for a more civilized age.

Thanks!

I've written to Watchismo (great name!) via his website. Hopefully I can manage something within my budget! :)

Superb! Thanks for the heads-up on that. I'm about as inept at repairing watches as I am at fixing a car engine, but for that little, I'll take the chance!

There are several other good folks offering watches as well via email, so THANK YOU for helping me along!

Take care, be well.

Well, that batch of ebay parts just skyrocketed out of my range.

I've been offered watches in better condition from members here for only nominally more than that auction. Watches that are um.... assembled? Versus that one.

Thanks for putting me onto the auction though! I certainly appreciate it!

Looks like I'll be doing some business dealings with members of this board!

Spcglider:

I didn't hear back from you so I got out the dead case I have - I was wrong, not a Mercury, but a CompuChron, genuine Battlestar issue!!!
$155 with shipping anywhere USA. You can easily sell it on ebay afterward for roughly that...maybe even make a penny or two. Picture below.

Years ago, I met a Russian man at a local New York flea market. He had one Compuchron calculator watch. I asked him about it and he mentioned having many more. I probably bought/had 50-60 of these at one point, all NOS and perfect. Sold them all for around $250 each... Wish I saved one of em for myself! Or even waited until their value went up. Quite honestly, there just weren't that many around before I unearthed this stash and the value only went up when I ran out... C'est la vie!
