Tell me about the rarest or coolest watch you know of

Post18 Oct 2006, 02:50

Hey everyone.

Wanted to let you all know about my new blog featuring the best of unusual timepieces;
www.watchismo.blogspot.com and my watch features at www.coolhunting.com

You can see my contributions for Coolhunting here;
http://www.joshrubin.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt- ... plate=co...

The latest was just posted today about Graham of 70s-watches.com and his very rare Heuer Ford Motorsport Chronosplit LCD.
http://www.coolhunting.com/archives/200 ... r_ford.php

I will be doing more features for them as well as for my blog which I'm very excited about.

Regarding the members of the DWF, I'd like to put a call out to everyone for lsuggestions of specific watches or designers that would be perfect for spotlighting. Whether it be an obscure model, an underappreciated designer, or just a watch that needs more acknowledgment.

Email me at watchismo@gmail.com with any suggestions.

Links to photos ideal. And I'll be sure to give credit wherever credit is due.

Best,
Mitch

...do I hear crickets chirping?

Some great standards of the important collector list, thank you for reminding me!

But c'mon, anybody else? Someting obscure, asymmetrical, ugly beyond ugly? Can anyone find the "Time To Fuck" Digital novelty watches? I'd sure love to do a spot on that one. I have seen the analog version but am looking for the digital moby dick one rumored to exist. Anyone know of any other sexually suggestive watches from the seventies?

I thought it was a real "sleeper when I got the Stainless one, then I found this one in gold - Timecraft, very rare indeed.

This hammered finish Gruen is just a tad wider than a Pulsar Dress, in case you think it's some little Ladies watch.....Image[/img]
Rare: Armitron, stem-set LED pocket watch. Anything "Lip & Roger Talon".
Hughes prototype DYnamic Scattering LCD with 32mm all metal(brass) module....all slammed into a HUGE "unbranded"(only back marked) gold with Platinum face Timex case - function at 2:30, set at 3, light at 9 oclock.
All strictly personal collection type stuff.

My animated Michael Jackson watch is pretty funny - however, "Beat It" and Michael shouldn't be used in the same sentence anymore. :P

The Japanese Dorach(LCD) watch contains a live cat. Well, almost, it has a cat character you can wake up...sometimes he tells the time, other times he want's food, other times he draws the blinds telling you to just piss off!! Tempermental like all pussy! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I'm in the process of putting up my website, which will contain a section devoted strictly to Novelty Digital Watches & Toys. I supose I'm the only one who bothers collecting vintage LED clocks. Green(readout) CompuChron, pale blue Compu Chron, reds of various manufacturers.

Mr.Frequency - that is awesome! Could we see a side profile, please?
You should get some pics to Guy Ball at ledwatches.net if that one isn't shown.

I noticed the comment about Guy Balls site, but is he out of action or something ?! I've emailed loads of pics to him in past 2 months, including the ones above and he has acknowledged the emails, but still not posted them. Anyone else been in contact with him recently ?

Digi - it IS nice to see some activity. Even ebay has been heating up. I really like that Heaur Chrono/Split...something about an LED stopwatch's display is almost mesmerizing to me. Green Phaser is very nice - do you know who made the module? I've had other Phaser's(red) shaped like that with Sanyo module's - I'm curious.

The "bark" Bulova - I confess....I bought it. :oops:

Digi(you and I were typing and posting at same time -LOL). Guy Ball is doing fine - he had fallen a little behind at one point, I helped him get up fresh shots for a dozen or more new pieces about 6 weeks ago. Funny, I just wrote to him tonight AND heard back...he's doing a little more updating "now". I had contacted him to ask for a Link on his Links Page for my new site(which isn't really ready to roll, but is up).
