love - hate relationship with an old Pontiac lcd watch

Post06 Sep 2011, 00:26

hi all,

Pontiac watches.. a legend in ....Belgium. Yeaah just Belgium and a few
other countries in our neigborhood 500 years later 8-)
But hey, i'm a belgian..so i have to treasure this watch. Got it from a watchmaker in our hometown when he decided that buying a bit of woodland for his old tractor was more fun then having a shop.

it was priced in the beginning of the 80' at 9995 belgian franks..thats +- 250 euro's now  and it was nos.

i was curious cause it had 4 buttons. 2 for time and light and the 2 others
for adjusting.

one push for time...next for A with the day of the month and the third for the seconds.
I never saw a watch that gives for date A 16 or P 18. so there is no month..just A for AM and P for PM or am i missing something here??

i opened the watch and for the first time i saw a transparent quartz...had no idea how it looked like :-D

so now the watch works..but the background light works very short and very dimmed after a push. Any Idea's here?

It's not a beauty but hey i'm a belgian..after a few beers...... :O`~

Interesting module. Looks quite special. I wonder what the more experienced LCD collectors here can say anything about it.

As for your backlight problem: sounds like weak batteries.

That is neat, and very interesting. Shame it has that bleed going at the bottom of the screen.. :x

There are a few other manufacturers that made movements the same diameter and button position. Seems the few Pontiac watches I've seen or we've discussed here, were fitted with other more common modules when they died. Pontiac mercifully didn't try to do their own thing, they recognized their limitations. 8-) E.g. Swiss case. They generally seem to be "rebranded" duplicates of larger manufacturers lines, that were sold to the Belgium market. Sorry if that bursts a bit of your national pride bubble. Drink a few beers -all will be good. :-)
