"kubela" with esa 9315

Post29 Aug 2012, 21:49

I've got this one for a while, bought it cheap, because the light didn't work. Stainless steel case, real glass crystal, nice bracelet :)

The movement, before repair of the light function and before cleaning.

The lightbulb was intact, but there was moisture/rust damage on the circuit board. I managed the clean and remove the most of it, the light works again :)

moist seems to have entered the case through the light button.

After replacing the batteries the watch refused to work, but I thought of Kasper's solution and waited patiently, after a while the digits started flashing, after some more time the watch started to work perfectly :)

yeah that a nice one..pure, the digits are nicely spread over the display and a special background. Did you get the light working?

The light works again, although the button has to be pressed fairly hard.

Very nice the background ;-)

That´s interesting. The case was made by the Reister & Nittel RP watch case company in Germany. This company is still active and I called them about 6 months ago. They are known for quality cases and I am wondering that they did digitals as well.

Does your module still have the clear plastic separator piece which goes over the light contact, and stops the metal button from actually touching the contact, still there? This arrangement looks totally wrong and they frequently get removed which gives all sorts of problems with the light as the case now shorts the light switch contact out.

Yes the plastic looked out of place at first glance, but after looking at a lot of images on the web I quickly realised it was there for a reason :) So I kept it. The contact on the circuit was very corroded, I repaired the trace carefully with my soldering iron. The watch works great, you only have to apply a little more pressure on the lightbutton. I can try to correct that, but the watch is working now and I don't want to destroy the module by tinkering too much. After replacing the batteries I have to wait a while until the watch starts up again, that is the only "problem" :)

And soon, I'll have another watch with this module anyway :)

@Hanno, yes I somehow recognized the fish on the back as a sign of quality :) I like to buy watches that are fully made of stainless steel, usually the phrase "stainless steel back" puts me off, unless the watch is gold colored :)
Very cool the company still exists!

Tissot used the same module on their LCD watches, must be a good one.
Interesting reflector by the way

I've seen pictures of the Tissot, beautiful watch, but very expensive :)
I've got a Beltime chrono with an (dead) esa module, with the same reflector, probably from the same era
