1979 Seiko F231-4009 LCD Quartz Watch

1979 Seiko F231-4009 LCD Quartz Watch 4mm Thick, Original Box Papers Not Running

That was what the e-Bay listing said.
Well i already own a working F231-4009, but it did not come with it's original box or paperworks.
If i could get it cheap then i'd have a complete set.
So that was my mission...i bid on it and bought it for only $15.50,- shipping however was $38.15,-
All in all i think that was money well spent.

The watch was very dirty and gold plating had come off in some places.
So i took it completely apart cleaned out all the dry human skin in every little corner. :~#
Using a toothbrush toothpaste and in the end a little silverpolish.
The watch i think came out nicely.

Here are some before pictures...

Loss of gold plating...

Bits of human skin...

Alot of cleaning to do.... :ironie:

Well what caught my attention in the item description is that the seller stated.

"The watch is in need of restoration, the watch and band show wear to the plating and it doesn't run. I haven't opened the watch or attempted a battery replacement."

How does he know it does not run if he has not opened it up and attempted to replace the battery.
So after cleaning it up i popped open the back of my working Seiko F231 it's battery nearly empty anyway because the display was flickering.
I figured there was enough "juice" left in the battery to check and see if it worked....

And it actually still works.... you can tell this watch has been well used.
Conclusion just 4mm thick but tough as H*ll.
Maybe Seiko sold their soul with this one. :rtfm:

ASAP i will post some after pictures but my camera battery is empty now... :bang:
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
The reason i collect watches is because it feels like i'm buying time.
