Seiko 0439-5009

Today i found in a flea market a used seiko 0439-5009 ( September 1976) for only 15 euro...the digits are very crisp but the light seems doesn't work.The left front button probably needs to be clean because don't work well...sometimes it works and others don't (the set functions works but light don't )
Unfortunatly the bracelet is missing but i want to found it..so...now at work!!!!

Nice catch.
I always search for them on fleabay, but unfortunately I always get outbid, so I never had the chance to buy one at an affordable price. Hope I'll manage to find one at a good price someday, an LCD Seiko is a watch I'd definitely like to add in my collection.

Its your lucky day Simone. I have the complete original bracelet for you, lug-ends included.
Replacing the light bulb is not too complicated, it doesn't have soldered contacts. So, there is also the possibility that the bulb is OK but the attachment got loose. Probably will be OK

Ow.. and be carefull not to push out (towards the inside) the crystal when the movement is out.. These crystals are extremely difficult to replace with their inner silicon-like rubber gasket.. (at least, that's my experience)



Edit: If the light bulb is broken I will send you a original 0439 replacement bulb too, both bracelet and light bulb as a gift. For helping me out with the Crystron 9010

The original gasket is already difficult to fit again.
But i had to place a new gasket in one and i only had a round one, and as you know the crystal is kind of rectangular, but after a lot of effort and cursing i finally got it to fit.

i open the watch and i found corrosion everywhere!!!The bulb is ko...
I clean all the circuit block but now the watch don't work
It's so strange beacause before the watch was running well (except light)...could be a contact problem with lcd circuit?

I think this watch has a very sophisticated yet very vulnerable movement; the very small pins connecting movement to lcd panel (if the tip of these goldplated pins is corroded..) are very delicate.. My advise would be: don't touch the tips of these pins with any abrasive material. Only blanco vinegar and a soft brush. You can however clean the connection points on the lcd panel. The lcd panel has an integrated driver, both + and - are connected through these pins (you can figure out which ones); if one of them gives resistance there are no digits.
From personal experience I learned with this particular movement (and its practically equal 0432 brothers): if it isnt broken don't fix it..

Its a shame the watch wont work now.. I hope you get it fixed!!

You're forgetting one other possibility...static electricity kills these watches just like it kills the LEDS; you should always be grounded when opening them or handling modules. Use a grounding strap, or only do this when it's raining or foggy (static charges can't form when the relative humidity exceeds 70%...I get a lot of work done on rainy days).

I cleaned again all the circuit block with vinegar and now the watch works but there's a problem...to see digits i must push the upper left (see pic) of the lcd panel.Strange before it works perfectly...
There's a contact pin problem...
Today in Milan is a rainy day....so a good day to work on it

FIXED!!!!!

it was a bad pin contact! now i'm needing only a new bulb and a z-100....after that i'll never open it again
