Seiko F623-5009

Post19 Oct 2014, 18:46

flea markets sometimes give fantastic catch....and this time i found a grail: a nos Seiko F623... :!: :!: :!:

As the other f623 saw on this forum my isn't working at 100% with the classic display failure...only the hour are little visible and can be set ....the other digits unfortunatly are vanished...
The light is very strong so i supposed that the module is working fine, anyway if i don't wrong this kind of watch is irreparable but i want to preserve it like a demonstration of Seiko quartz mastery during the 80's...

Nice to see some digits Simone. My F623 is invisible. I bet you like the size of this too. Just a collectors piece like mine.

question for electonical expert:

Anyone knows how this panel works?

I have put in 2 battery in: well i can see only the AM/PM dot and the first two hour number (very faint)
In the tech manual there's a section that explain how to charge the electrochromic panel...so it needs to be charged before using?

Very cool to have such a piece of history! I think most of these were discarded after the display failed, it must be extremely rare.

Someday we might find a way to get these watches working again.

I really like just how thin these are, and from the descriptions the vivid blue digits on a pure white background must have been impressive.

Like the others, I've been unsuccessful in finding out how to get the display recharged to work properly, so it's in storage to preserve it, and just in case someone finds a way to fix them in the future.

Thanks Brian for your reply and for your tech manual....now it's my turn to found a solution to fix the problem (maybe)...

No problem Simone, just sorry that we can't get these things working like they did when new.

Only thing I can think of would be to contact a company that makes Electrochromic displays, and see if maybe they might have an idea on how to rejuvenate the display or replace it with a modern version.

At least there's still companies working with electrochromic display technology.
