Seiko strap change?

Post11 Mar 2015, 12:10

Ok, I'm stuck.

Can anyone guide me as to how I can change this watch strap? I would like to try a Velcro one, if that's even possible with this.

Normally there are little cut away holes in the strap near the underside of the face, so you can get to the spring bars. This seems totally sealed. I haven't attempted to remove the module yet. Maybe there is some access there?

Anyone have any ideas? Cheers.

I guess it's the same as changing a rubber strap on Seiko dive watch or on a Casio G-shock. You'll need a penknife. Carefully slide it in between the case and the band until you feel it reach the spring bar (the band looks like rubber/silicone so there'll be enough flexibility to do this). Then gently twist the knife so as to push the spring bar end out of the case. Then gently pull that side of the strap out of the watch.

Always a good idea to put some tape over any areas you dont want to scratch and always use as little force as you can get away with.

(And good luck finding the springbar when it pings out, hits you on the forhead then ricochets to the other side of the room...)

Thank you digibloke.

Ah, that is what I feared I might have to do. The thought of the procedure sends shivers down my spine, but I find the current strap annoying (difficult getting it on or off) and quite bulky and uncomfortable. I will just be extra careful and try what you describe. I will order a strap now.

I hate losing spring bars and tiny screws etc as you describe lol. If this one springs off and enters orbit, maybe one of the lovely dwf members can catch it, on its return to earth, and post it back to me post haste. Thanks. :grin1:

do the procedure in a clear plastic bag. Not all you just your hands, that way if something goes flying its usually in the bag.

Great tip. I will try that. :grin1:

I have been looking for a red Velcro strap, but can't find exactly what I'm looking for. The ones I find go all the way around the wrist (across the underside of the watch face). The pulse metre watch needs skin contact on the underside to read the wearers pulse, so they are not an option. I might try a black one I found that connects to each springbar individually. See how that looks.
