Hi. I bought a similar Hamilton LCD a couple of years ago, and thought I got a great deal, when I only paid a few bucks. However, in my case, I have to say the watch was a pretty poor example of a digital watch, compared to their earlier LED's, and the display was a pretty simple looking regular LCD. I'm not looking to put a downer on your Hamilton, although I would say it is quite possibly a broken modern field effects LCD? Not a patch on that great Seiko world time, on your Avatar :)
As for the Suncrux reference, I beleive it was a quote from the Peter Doensen book. It was the first watch that had a round faced LCD display that told the time in a similar way to conventional watches - The Suncrux had LCD segments that swept around the round face, in a similar way to the hands of a conventional watch.
