My love: seiko 0624-5009

This is my favorite...simply elegance and beauty.I love the green-yellow display and the high contrast digits!This is from April 1975 (but released in Japan in 1974) whit original B194 strap.Works well..
Only few scratches on the glass but ok....
I read in the manual that the battery life is over one year but in my case is about 8-9 months ....probably i abuse the use of light....(i hope).I use a Duracell silver oxyde 386,there are better batteries?

One of my favourites too. Such a beautiful design. I know Seiko Kid also has a passion for these. Another stunning Seiko of that era is the M159-5039. It sits very much like the large 0634-5019 but is much lighter. It also seems to be the only Seiko digital that I have come across with a clasp at one end of the bracelet and none at the other. The factory brushing also turns 90 degrees on each half of the bracelet.

I love this model Seiko too Simone. I like to say it' s my favorite.. but there are so many good Seikos out there that can't keep only 1 in the top spot for long. Still - as you said it's a very elegant design, well balanced, I also love that 'green skin' it has and the way the case is slightly angled. Tillted so that it is easier to view.

I bought mine many years ago on e-bay in a two watch lot. I wasn't really jazzed about it, actually bought it and the other as "non running junkers" for the bands. Anyway, I took out the old Ray-O-Vac battery that was in tit and put in a new battery for the heck of it and to my big surprise the thing worked great - but had a badlly scuffed up crystal. Ed @ retorleds refurbished it and I've been loving it ever since. (BTW - I use Maxell batteres and they last a few years - but it's not my daily wearer.)

Yes DWL - the M159-5009 is another awesome model! Those 70's era Seikos were the best, IMO.

Yes, elegant, but your pictures are "greenish-Yellow" as well. You have a white balance issue going on.

I have always wanted one of those watches. They are kind of rare. I am not sure how many people know this, but they did make a "Gold Plated" version of this watch.

Can anyone please give some input of the specs or rarity of the "Gold" plated version of the Seiko 0624-5009? I really want to know this.

Yah...the gold plated is very rare!I see some pics on the net but in my opinion the "classic" version is better than gold....well De gustibus non est disputandum (latin)

I have the gold 0624 here not in great condition as it pits very easily. I have to say the finish is nowhere near as good as the SS version and the bracelet just isnt in the same league as the solid SS version.

Do you have any pics of the gold plated version? Also, are there anymore of the Gold version Seiko 0624-5009 left in mint shape?

I would love to see what a NOS version of this watch looks like with pictures taken with an DSLR using a Macro lens.

Wow! That is somewhat rough. Is there a big difference in the 0624-5009 gold plating from other Seiko's? I do see the potential of a very nice watch if it can be replated, but I am not sure the cost would be worth it.

Those Gold varients of Seiko models are mainly some crap form of Gold Plate or fill, but I think they use a spray can back at the Seiko factory. The bracelets are not affected and hold their ground. I think the base metal of the cases is not SS.

Nice work on buying that 0624. It was a recent one from ebay no? Her pictures are not that good and sometimes the watches arnt either. You got a good score

Be careful with your passion for these watches otherwise you will end up like me and DWL With tooo many!

The 0624-5009 is a lovely combination of the simplicity and front buttons of the 0634, with the green screen of the M158.

I'm currently hunting LEDs, but an 0624-5009 is on my long term list.

Not to put you off Caruso but the green display is a gel filter that is taped to the underside of the crystal

well here is mine i have so far...i would love to find some parts to complete them both....i was able to polish the crystal on the gold one....it looks quite nice so far....
