Question on LCD Displays / Interchange

Hi,

This is a basic question but I thought I would ask since I'm new to the world of LCD's.

Did the various watch vendors (Citizen, Hamilton, Seiko, etc..) have specific modules and displays made custom for thier watch lines or did a few electronics vendors at the time source all the modules and displays with "common" functions?

The reason I ask is I'm looking for a replacement lcd display for a Hamilton 880 LCD module and was wondering if I would find the same "panel" in a different makers watch. Or do you really have to stick it out and look for a module from the same maker or line of watch.

I know some of the LED modules are interchangable so I though I would ask about LCD's.

Otherwise is there someone that sources vintage LCD displays for watches?

Sorry to say, but as far as i know seiko, citizen, casio lcd panels/modules are not in any way interchangable with the hamilton brand.
I don't know if other brands will fit.
I do know that the yemis brand used seiko lcd modules in the 70's.
Yes, led modules can sometimes be exchanged, but that is not the case for most lcd watches.

Some pictures of the watch/module could help to determine if another brand of panel/module would fit.
And to satisfy my curiousity as to what a hamilton 880 looks like

Also would like to know what brands / watches can be interchanged - perhaps a database similar to our new LED module database can be considered for LCD's?
