H558 Restore

Post01 Jan 2014, 20:38

I will admit this boarders on retro but I haven't seen much talk of these watches on here and thought it might interest some members ?

I've been playing around with these for some time now, mainly restoring them for other collectors. Never had any interest myself and then in September after restoring one for a collector I suddenly appreciated the build quality and decided to get myself one
As you guys are aware it didnt stop with 1 and I seem to have ended up with 3!

Interestingly there are some progressive changes to build over the years and a rare red dial version

Everthing is original ( I'm not 100% about the strap ) except the yobokies bezel insert and I had it relumed

New glass and full gasket replacement - New Year's Day treat ;)

They range from 1982 - 1987. Im not sure the exact beginning and end dates but Im sure I am very close…

Lots of interest in these watches and one of the Few Seikos that carries approval of refurbishment and reluming and aftermarket shrouds / bands

Here is the Red dialled version before and after

Nice resto, SK. I thought this would be your size watch. Nice to see the original bezel.

Thanks DW
Those are actually Harold's bezels - I have an original one here though, not sure whether to replace it or not?

Sorry SK I meant the plastic shroud not the bezel. I might need one or two of those bezels though for my 558 and my 601. Where did you get it from? Do they fit the shroudless versions of the baby arnie(sorry cant remember the number, I have a couple here)

Nice work!
Vintage Seiko's are becoming sought after so it's good to have modern replacement parts freshly made in Asia.
It's all about the demand....once it reaches a certain level we will be able to buy replacement P1 modules ;)
