Hello from Australia.

Recently acquired the above watch on fleabay in unknown working condition?! Before I had put new battery in I did notice the dreaded green corrosion but hey what the hell lets just see if this baby works and IT DID for about 5 minutes. Screened would not stop flashing the light even worked. So out come the battery to see if I could remove any of the green gunk. I have download the service/user manuals. Questions

1. What can I use to open the case back to have a good sticky nose and clean?

2. If the corrosion has fried everything suggestions on new bits?

If you don't have a legitimate "case-back opener", then use a butter knife. They work well. Look for the small slot on the down-slanted ind of the case-back, and just twist. This should pop open the case-back fine.

2. If the corrosion has fried everything suggestions on new bits?

If a battery had leaked in the watch at one time (alkaline batteries I believe were always the worst), then you would want to clean the circuit board off with isopropyl alcohol, cm by cm. Be very careful, as the rubbing too hard can dislodge the soldier points. If indeed the circuit is ruined from a leaky battery from 1979, then you will need a replacement circuit board. Somtimes you can get these from members on this board or back on eBay. Anyway good luck to you my friend!

Where the arrow is , there is a small indent.




A watchknife can best be used to open these kind of watches, and i always put a piece of sticky tape on the back to prevent the knife from damaging it.
