How do you clean a scratched lens?

Post26 Aug 2015, 02:25

How do you clean a scratched lens ?

I am new to lcd care , I have bought my first one.

I did read about a person using fine sandpaper , I bought a pack of ten types of fine metal paper from amazon which I was going to polish the watch with.

I did read you can use the ultra fine one on the screen , then use toothpaste !

Any tips would be great.

Thanks

If it's a plastic crystal then Polywatch is great. Available on ebay and it's a ten minute job.

If it's a mineral crystal and you polish it with grade 1400 wet and dry paper with plenty of water for hours and hours and hours then you'll get light scratches out but it's almost impossible to get an even finish. I've done it once and I'll never do it again as it really wasn't worth it (which is what I guess Seiko Kid Means).

Toothpaste won't do anything other than make it smell minty. Cerium Oxide (available for polishing car glass on ebay) does a good job but again it's messy, probably toxic and to be honest, again, it's not worth the hassle. The same goes for diamond paste and jewellers rouge.

What I tend to do nowadays after years of messing about with watches is either live with the scratches or try to find a replacement.

What kind of LCD is it? Perhaps someone on here could help you out with a new glass.
