I have absolute 110% confidence in Seiko as a brand, both new and old. I probably have 200+ seikos (mainly 70's LCDs, calculators, some 80s) and perhaps 25+ 'mechanical' quartz based (7A28's etc). Sadly i've seen some super-cheapo chinese made sekio clones, which are pretty awful, maybe youve experienced a clone !
I've known some terrible swiss mechanical watches who pride themselves on their cost, and have exotic unpronouncable names, and are hand made apparently, and are prestigiously rare blah blah, and they cost £5k/£10k/£20k or something daft, and need servicing once a year, and whilst you can cherish something like that for what it is, I have little confidence in using them !
