It is definitely a "digital" watch, yet it uses a mechanical display. And it is of high quality from Seiko. CHeck it out!

Yes, but it is not a LCD watch nor quartz.

It's a jump hour that's put the slap on.

$890 on fleabay. Total rip off even for Seiko quality. Pretty though. Just like all designers, most "reinterpret" the past. Check out furniture from the 20's, 50's, 70's and anything "contemporary". All the same. Clothes, we revolve from 1963 beatles suits, through 67 hippy, then on to 1973 glam. Now it's all 1982. I expect grunge to be on the catwalks in the next couple of seasons. Then back to the 60's. The only exception is when they try to bring back 40's glamour every 10 years or so for a change, but it never takes off.

Hey who knows....maybe leds will make a comeback.

Well we can "still" obtain premium after-care service and warranty from Seiko (since it's just been released in late 2007). Not bad.

Thats the last reason on my list of 100 reasons as to why I buy interesting watches !!!

I have hundreds of 70s watches, and a huge collection of Seiko's. Only once in 35 yrs have I ever needed to send a watch off for any after sales care, and that wasnt becuase it had stopped, it was becuase I had managed to scratch the glass when falling off a surf-board as it struck the sand / rocks on a beach. I took longer to fix than the watch though ...

Really that durable and accurate for over 35 years??? Impressive.

I told my wife to buy a radio-controlled Seiko digital watch rather than the mechanical Discus, coz I had no confidence in Seiko's mechanical watches. Seems that I have made the wrong decision???

Nevertheless, I'm still searching for good digital watches (both mechanical and electronic ones). Any advice in some good brands??

you are pulling my chain, surely !?!

I have absolute 110% confidence in Seiko as a brand, both new and old. I probably have 200+ seikos (mainly 70's LCDs, calculators, some 80s) and perhaps 25+ 'mechanical' quartz based (7A28's etc). Sadly i've seen some super-cheapo chinese made sekio clones, which are pretty awful, maybe youve experienced a clone !

I've known some terrible swiss mechanical watches who pride themselves on their cost, and have exotic unpronouncable names, and are hand made apparently, and are prestigiously rare blah blah, and they cost £5k/£10k/£20k or something daft, and need servicing once a year, and whilst you can cherish something like that for what it is, I have little confidence in using them !

Seiko produce the best mechanical watches in the world, bar none. They entered the swiss COSC competitions in the early 70's and everybody sneered. They won. Everyone said they got lucky, next year they won again. They were never invited back. Do not confuse japanese with cheap tat, they're the best (but brand image suffers because they're not swiss). The swiss have been coasting for years on their reputation of yesteryear.
