How do you maintain your Junghans Mega 1000?

Post03 Jan 2015, 14:31

Happy New Year!

I have had my Mega 1000 since 2007 and I love it, been gifted with other watches but this is the watch of choice for me.

My only struggle is when the battery needs replacing no 'normal' watch repairs are able to do it correctly. I have in the past resorted sending it to Jon Vincent in Scotland which do a great job but it's a great inconvenience not to have my watch for a few weeks.

Recently my watch ran out of battery and I took it to Harrods watch repairs, they fitted a new battery but since then it has not been able to sync and also tried pressing T4 (top left) to manual start and it does not work, same happened to me when I took it to another local watch repairs many years ago. I pressed all 4 once a day to do a full reset with no luck either, it has been over a week without a functioning watch. :-|

Anyone give me any tips of what I can do? Surely for a digital watch we don't have to send to a specialised workshop for a simple battery change.

Many thanks,

Ka

It's quite simple to change the battery in the Mega 1000.
Jut remove the 4 screws, remove the old cell, and place the new one in. It's a CR1620 which isn't easy to find where I live. I just grabbed one online.
Be careful you don't lose the little piezo springs..........or the buzzer won't work :-D
3/4 of the way down this page is a picture showing it with the back off:

Regarding it not syncing, I can't help you. Perhaps they damaged the antenna when they changed the battery. They must've been pretty rough with it if that's the case.
Rgds.

Had a similar issue with the first Mega 1 and it took about 2 days for the module to sync properly, reason unknown.
But the Mega 1 has the antenna incorporated in the strap so if damaged it would be the first thing to inspect.
Not sure where the antenna is located on the Mega 1000 but it appears to be within the case, maybe one of the connector springs got lost and that is the reason.
You don't need a specialized store to change batteries in any watch, just make sure that the person doing the swap is smart enough to take all small parts into consideration.
I bought quite many NOS watches for no money in non working condition just to find out that a spring or insulator is missing or was not aligned properly.
The website charger mentioned says that you can stop the sync function so I'd try reactivating it properly, perhaps you might need to open the back and check if the buttons are properly touching the module. Good luck!

I second that.

Exactly. I lost the spring of mine and now it's quiet. Never used the alarm anyway.

My guess too. Wire of antenna coil ripped with screwdriver or other tool.

I always change batteries myself in all my watches.
