analog/digital watch with backlight always on.

Post28 Sep 2015, 19:37

well this seems impossible to find.

i know there are a couple of smartwatches out there(Pebble) which have an option of always-on display.
when it comes to standard watches however this option does not exist(i can not find any)

Superluminova: fades and will not stay visible al night
tritium:will stay visible but expensive

lcd watches:i only found an old onw which uses tritium behind it's lcd screen to stay permanent on.

so my question.

is there a digital watch with a backlight which stays on permanently, preferably with a light sensor.
i am looking for a watch with alarm which i can read during the night without touching it or pressing buttons.

does this exist?

Unfortunately, Time Computer never made a model with an alarm feature. However, Hamilton did (uses Frontier module). Not common, but might be worth a look...

Quite a lot of Casio Pro-Trek and G-Shock models made in the last 10 years have an auto backlight function which turns the light on when you turn your wrist to about the 45 degree position for a couple of seconds. Quick Google search of "casio auto backlight" throws up most.

LCD - check
Tritium backlight - check
Alarm - check

Unfortunately it's not working - the quartz resonator I think as the time can be set but doesn't advance.

Hi.

In case you haven't seen the Tritium backlit LCD watches before... this shows what they look like to dark adapted eyes and their interior construction in case you find one that you'd like to "re-tritify":

Seems like the Casio auto light feature is the closest to what you are looking for. It works fairly well and when you bring your wrist up to read the time the LED will light up. It does run down your battery faster so you may want to consider solar model.
