Seiko SDGA 009

Post16 Aug 2022, 12:22

Just waiting on this fantastic Seiko epd .
Unmarked unused, still has the protective tape on it.
Purchased in Japan in Dec 2015 .
Double boxed, hang tag, instruction manuals booklets and warranty card.
Im i correct in assuming it may need to go to Japan for a new rechargeable cell ? ( hoping it charges and wont need this yet)
Has anyone had this done through Seiko UK?
I remember buying a old ventura fx , again new old stock, lying unused with a flat cell for about 15 plus years.
I was advised the capacitor battery would probably need renewed.
However it charged and operated perfectly. Hoping the 009 is the same.

Been charging in bright sun light , no response . Contacted Seiko Uk, who will handle its return to Japan for service.
Highly suspect its never seen much day light .
Hoping they replace the whole charging circuit ( solar panel, capacitor and battery , reseal with new gasket and pressure test.
As its absolutely as new well worth the effort. Ill be keeping it in constant light to keep it fully charged.
Beautiful, rare and the EPD is amazing . I prefer the design of this one over the SDGA 001 range.

Update
Still at Seiko Japan, however a phone call from Seiko UK confirms the watch requires more than just a new battery, stating a full service is required.
I am waiting on a costing and report on what is required and needs to be done.
Total is £285.
As its such a special watch i have given it approval for completion.

I paid more than that for a service for my Seiko 6139 by a non specialist, which has far simpler technology. I think you got a good deal. Most digital watches you can't get serviced at all!

Received it back few weeks ago, now fully serviced from Seiko Japan, new recharging circuit, battery, gasket seals pressure tested. Still retains its protective tape on clasp and case back as its never been worn.
Double boxed will all tags and paper work warranty card from 2015 purchased in Japan.
Its a bit big for me as i prefer the Hamilton psr.
Im considering offering it for sale.
If anyone has an interest i can provide more info and pics .
Pm in first instance.
Thank you.
John
