Sicura Instalite jump hour remake

Post25 Oct 2014, 22:21

At last, after buying this one more the 1.5 year ago, i finally found the time to do a remake.
But not just a remake...i wanted it to look like modern...with iceblue ledlighting that i could use as a nightlight :-D

enjoy the remake.

scored a broken one on the bay.

a friend of mine is an electronic engineer...and a damn good one.
He took a small printboard of a old nokia mobile and used it's lighting leds (4 blues) of the screen  :O`~ he is a real genius.

The watch has a special way to put the batts in so i could do 3 volts when pushing the button against the outside of a 1.5 + cone of one batt. This make contact
with the next batt and produces 3 volts. I could not get it working in the beginning because my friend swapped the wires..sssst..don't tell him i had to resoldern
the wires :-D

Then i still had to redo the case.. sanding, polishing

next i electroplated a new silver layer on the watch.

oooooggh my eyessss...i'm almost blind :-D :mega:

Fantastic Kasper, you hot rodded a sicuralite, very cool. Did you do the replating or get someone else to do it it. I have a poor bodied instalite here i'd like to do the same.

Great work Kasper! :mega:

The watch looks superb and the strap looks a perfect match. :mega:

The light would have a practical function such as locating keys and opening locks on dark nights or for when you are down at the coast and the local lighthouse has a power cut. :grin1:

Wow! Unique. I have a small collection of jump hours watches, but I've never seen anything like this.

Well done Kasper, you now have a night reading lamp :)
I tried a similar approach for the Spaceman but LED "bulbs" need minimum 3V to produce some light and the Spaceman only has 1.5V.
I had to install a normal bulb, needed to buy a hundred from China in sizes 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm with green, blue, yellow, red plastic caps.
Railroad model makers use these for their city lanterns.

thx...i must admit...i'm faling in love with this watch. The light is super bright so even when you have bad eyes (getting older), you can still read the digits at night. I will do a few other if i have the time.

btw these small light from a christmas tree...the old white ones can be used to. I have to try them.

Any matching bulb will work but the other Sheffield/Sicura Instalite needs a bulb of max 2mm due to limited space under the dial.

DonĀ“t know why I missed this posting. I like the secura, although I am not a fan of blue LEDs. But what you did with the case and how clean the watch looks on your wrist - this is amazing work!
