1976 OMEGA MARINE CHRONOMETER SS 1976

Post28 Jan 2013, 17:34

Hi Guys,

Any experts out there that can give me some advice please.

OMEGA made 7000 OMEGA MARINE CHRONOMETERS CALIBRE 1516 it was a state of the art watch, they officially certified by the University of Bescan Observatory as a marine chronometer,it was used in conjunction with a sextant for world navigation, in fact the famous French explorer Jacques Cousteau wore one. There is also one on display under glass at the British Museum in London.

They were made from stainless steel and the bezel was solid 14k gold, I am told by fellow collectors that only the rich could afford this watch as they cost as much in as a small car. It was the standard issue of all officers on board ship in the French Navy.

I would appreciate it if you could give me a figure of how much they were sold for in 1976 even a ballpark figure will suffice. :?:
Thank you,
KARNAK.
