SASM-14 problem

Post11 May 2010, 19:03

Hello,
I have a SASM-14 installed in my everyday P2 that I wear, and it just stopped working (I have had it in use without problems since I received it back from Hanno in October '09...It is no longer covered by warranty :-( ).
I removed the batteries, and installed new. All it does is display:
'SAS when battery first makes contact, and then still does nothing when button is pressed. I'm guessing the ('SAS) stands for "Strikes And Spares", but nothing else happens after it displays the message.
If anyone has had the same issue, Please let me know.
I don't know if the "'SAS" would even be displaying if the Quartz went bad, so I don't want to start by a removal, and replacement since I know nothing about how this Module works exactly.
Of course I could try to make contact with Hanno, but I thought someone here might of had the same issue, and know a simple fix to the problem I am having.
Thanks for any help, or insight :-?

Your button may have stopped working for whatever reason (loss of button magnetivity, reduction in reed switch sensitivity etc).

If you haven't already done so, a simple test would be to wave an external magnet around to see if it fires up. You could even short the reed switch out with tweezers if you suspect that it's failed in the off position.

Andrew.

We give a full 1 year (!) warranty on our modules. But this should be an easy fix:

It´s either the button, the reed switch or the quartz touches the case or one leg of the quartz has no connection to the circuit board.

'SAS will be displayed with or without a quartz.

I'm sorry Hanno, I thought it was only a 3 month (90 day) Warranty...I didn't want to bother you at all if someone had a simple fix answer to the problem I'm having.
I did make a tiny jumper wire to bypass the reed to see if that was the problem, but it won't even light up for setting the time.
Everything looks to be connected for it to work, but I'm sure there is something I'm missing...I don't want to poke, or prod around with the module at all...if its anything, I'm sure you would know what to do.
I will contact you to make arrangements for the fix
Thanks again for all the wonderful work you do!!!
This module with the day/date feature is wonderful...Its made both my Pulsar, & I very happy!
