NOS Litronix Not Lighting Up

Post25 May 2010, 05:32

I'm a new member and very new to the entire world of LED's.
I purchased a Litronix the other day, popped off the cover to find corroded batteries. I cleaned up the module, inspected all contacts a put new 386 batteries back in ---- Nothing! No sign of life whatsoever. Was wondering what points I use to try with my alligator clips and two AA's?

The watch was NOS and sat unused for many years with batteries inside and I thought all that would be needed was a good cleaning. I am disappointed to find no life/lights at all. Both batteries are in with the + showing as it should be.... Would it be common for an unused watch to be totally dead?

Any Advice? (other then throw it away :)

Thanks! > Rob P.

I see this sort of thing all the time; beautiful shape...and dead as the dinosaurs. I learned early on that there is NO correlation between cosmetic and working condition. One of the worst-looking Pulsars was a P3 that looked like it had spent time in a rock crusher. Put in new batteries and it worked perfectly [fortunately, it had been stored away with the batteries removed]. But, dont throw yours away; you might find a beat-up worker on eBay cheap, transplant the module, and have a nice watch for a minimal investment. BTW, leaking batteries and static electricity have killed more digital watches than all other causes combined, so it's something to consider when buying any electronic watch (LED or LCD]. If the pictures don't show it working, there's probably a problem...

Thanks Bruce. I suppose I will have to chalk it up to inexperience. It is frustrating because everything looks clean and perfect, yet dead as a doornail -- I can see how minutes turn into hours trying to fix a problem -- its still fun, but would be more enjoyable to see a little red light .... maybe I'll run to the car and get my jumper cables! :)
