Synchronar repair

Post25 May 2010, 11:53

I took the plunge and couldn't resist a Ragen Synchronar. It stopped working a couple of years ago, apparently. I'm hoping the nicads are dead and that fitting new ones might bring it to life, although there are several snags to this plan: a) getting into the thing, b) the batteries may have leaked and c) the problem may be elsewhere anyway.

However, it's got to be worth a shot. So - any advice on getting into the thing?

Thanks

Thanks Will

If you have a black bottom MK3 Sunwatch, remove the module from the housing and place it on an active railroad track and wait for the 5pm freight. After the train has passed, pick up the pieces, and put them in a bag. When you get home, take one grainy and and poorly focused picture with a cheap cell phone camera and place them on ebay as "Synchronar Parts".
Then use the proceeds from the sale to buy a genuine red bottom Synchronar.

after you have determined it is indeed a mkI/II and it still does not lite up with the power to it, it could be the qc is bad. that would be my next step. replace it. there is a lot of helpful advice on the synchronar division of the dwf. i agree with jt's advice on the mkIII. hopefully you are near a railroad track. peter

If it's the Italian one from Ebay that was listed for the last week or two, it looks like a MkIII Sunwatch to me. I'm fairly sure there were no MkI or MkII Sunwatches............it was only the MkIIIs that could be had in either form (I don't think there were any MkIV Sunwatches ?).
Assuming it is this one, I don't think it's by Ragen either. I think by the time the MkIII came along, they'd changed to Riehl Time (although I have heard of MkIIIs with red bottoms.........presumably early MkIIIs using up MkI and MkII stock).

Open it carefully, and you might be lucky.
Good luck Will !

Hi all

It is the one from Italian eBay. Not one of my more considered buys by the sound of it! Oh well. I'll let you know what I find when it gets here.

Cheers

Will
