Hughes Programmable Module

Post10 Mar 2010, 02:55

I recently purchased a couple of Hughes modules from eBay (Pulsar Toms old stock) one of the modules is the programmable type the other is the more common date\month type. I tried the programmable one in a case, plonked in some batteries and thought I had got lucky when it lit right up.....however after successfully going through the complete setting procedure (including the message) I pressed the command and nothing :-? the display was blank  I removed the module from the case cleaned up the contacts and traces and retried but alas no joy. I think it is probably the chip that is fried but before I give up on it I thought I would ask the pro's maybe there is something simple I could try? I have left the watch with two new silver oxide batteries in it on the outside chance that it will spring to life whilst at rest, my other planned actions following this will be to try subjecting the watch to a little gentle heat and\or cold. Any other idea's or suggestions would be welcome.

If a watch has the programmable module pressing the command button at the 7 o'clock position will display the message, during the setting procedure the first letter of each word is displayed in turn so if you have one it should be easy to spot.

Subjecting a Hughes module is pointless - the Pulsars had a heat sensor for compensating their timing...no other's had that.

Your Hghues may need a new quartz crystal - I have a nice supply of that frequency an d would be happy to try a swap for you.

Does your module have a white-ish plasitc hub(battery holder)? That seems to be the most common arrangement, along with some marginally different button contacts.

And understand, when you go through the setting prcoess with that module, it takes 11 pushs of the setting button to get to "GO".
Leap year, month, day, hour, minute, 5 for the five line of text, finish. Commonly people are still in the settings and think they are done, especially if there is any "stuttering" with the setting contact(bad contact)

Push it, push it real good  !@@! Couldn't resist!

Ed the module is on its way towards you, I gave it another try with new batteries before I posted it - I set the time & date (skipped the message) I then pressed the command for time and the watch displayed as it should, I pressed again and nothing, all function not working. I think it is probably not the QC but I shall leave in your expert hands.

It is out of the envelope. Now, considering that this is a "National Holiday Weekend" in the States(Memorial Day), do you want me to work on it now, or on Tuesday?. Memorial Day is Monday http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day

Songs will be sung, parades will pass....but by and large many here will spend the weekend in relaxation, planting of gardens, outdoor picnicking and general acts of [over]consumption of all manner. It is supposed to be a DAY TO COMMEMORATE U.S. MEN AND WOMEN WHO DIED WHILE IN MILITARY SERVICE. :-( 8-)

I personally am grateful for those unnamed fallen, and their families - they made the ultimate sacrifice :!:

Absolutely not, please work on it when it is convenient for you to do so, I am, as always, grateful to you for all the work that you do and have done for me in the past.

I fully agree, the sacrifice that was made should never be forgotten.

Kind Regards Mick.
