vintage Orient LED g680109-40 with problems

Post20 Sep 2010, 15:57

Hello guys,

My name is Mauricio, I´m from Brasil and this is my first post at the DWF.

I have a vintage Orient LED g680109-40

http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/orient3.htm

that was left boxed for a long and after replacing the battery the display lights up ok to set the time, but after that it stays off when you were supposed to check the time.

There´s no sign of a previous battery leak.

Any thoughts that could lead me in the right direction to try and solve this ?

Best Regards,

Mauricio

Welcome Mauricio!

You say it displays correctly when setting time - if you go back into settings a while later will time have passed?

You understand that the time is only displayed for about 3 seconds when you are wearing or holding the watch and touch the front of the metal bezel(try different spots, that is another issue)? The button to the right(at about the 1 o'clock position) is only for showing the date, e.g 20 for today. If it doesn't respond to the bezel touch, it may just have bad contact between the module and the front of the case - the contact point is a spring that protrudes from the front of the module - don't lose it, it can come out easily.

Take a look at it further and then check back with your progress - others will join in with additional thoughts.

Hello Retro,

My associate is a big horology buff and he took my Orient to his trusted technician that said exactly that "a spring problem"

We also thought about the possibility that the o-ring that isolates the bezel from the case could be stiffer with the age.

Considering both cases, do you have any idea where I could find spare parts ?

This was my father´s first Quartz, so it holds a lot of sentimental value.

Thank you again for your help.

I can replace the spring for you. Please PM me.
The bezel separator is rarely a problem, it is quite thick...
