Weak Pulsar Button Help

Post07 Oct 2010, 17:23

The date command button on my P2 does not function correctly, I soldered in a working read from an old module but it still does not cause the date to display when the button is pressed, if I put the module in upside down it works fine with the opposite button but the time will not display and if I hold a magnet close to the case it works so it would seem the read is OK, the original read worked the same as the replacement, is it possible that the magnetism of the button has weakened over the years? Is there a workaround to cure the problem?

I've replaced buttons from other watches which seemed to do the trick, easy job as well.

That sounds like a good idea, unfortunately I don't have a spare, when one comes my way I will give it a go.

I think this question has been asked before but I can't find the appropriate thread.

Thanks for the tip!

If you only have the one reed switch, try carefully flipping it 180 degrees.

I've just ordered 10 new reeds from Azimuth (Piotr), which are more sensitive to weak magnets, hopefully they will do the trick.

The top-to-bottom swap is a good idea to try. BUT...there is another thing to consider...the rotational orientation of the reed. Look at the one that is working, and note how it is oriented relative to the button. Rotate the misbehaving one to match, and see if that does the trick. You may have to do this several times, to get the position right, but this has work for me on a number of occasions. I would exhaust all possibilites before considering installing a non-factory reed [I have never had to do that].
