GP Glass Replacement & General Repair Questions.

Post04 Jun 2011, 12:19

I recently picked up an untested gold plate GP and have a couple of questions relating to the watch.

The glass is broken, is it difficult to repair?

The watch does flash up random digits when the batteries are installed but does not function correctly, are these modules easy to repair, are there any common faults that can be easily checked and rectified?

Is the box original?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mick:
As you probably noticed, the battery contacts are a weak link in those. Rebuilding that section sucks(wires cross..hard to explain), but can be done neatly. The glass just pops out - scan it, print that on a piece of label paper, stick label to a flat piece of red acrylic and you have a good starting template to file up to.

Nice catch there Bucko170..... I hope you can get it back to tip top shape. Looking at the picture of the broken crystal, I wonder how in the #^*%@ did the previous owner manage to break that glass? There are no deep gashes or nicks that I can see in the case that would indicate it hit someting hard. Maybe it was dropped ?

I did notice how flimsy the battery contacts are, it would appear to be a good place to start as the display does go on and off when the batteries are moved around although it might not be the only fault present. Great tip for replacing the glass, I shall give it a go.

Thanks, apart from the glass it's in good shape, I also wondered how it had been broken it must of been a pretty direct hit.
