Pulsar calculator: removing module from case

Post11 Sep 2004, 16:09

Is it possible to remove the led-module in a Pulsar calculator watch?
The inside of the back says: do not remove module from case.
The screws that hold the module in place are sealed with some kind of glue.
Or will i destroy the watch by doing this?
Is it still possible to put the watch back together again?

Anyone ever done this?

The short answer is yes!

However you must be careful when removing the module. There is no real trick here except you MUST not touch the front face of the module when you get it out. Each LED segment on the face of the module has exposed wire bonds and if you touch them they will be whipped away. These wires are so small you cannot see them with the naked eye, I know because I made the ultimate mistake years ago when I removed my first calculator module.

Just remove the silicone and the small screws holding the module in the case, be careful and pry the module out as evenly as possible and do not touch the face side, especially near the top portion where the display is. Also be careful not to push any of the keys while the module is removed or they may get turned around.

Good luck,

Sometimes the calculator isn't working, i think one of the buttons is stuck or dirty.

What about an HP-01 Calculator watch? Can it be done as well?

Done!!!
I removed the module and cleaned and refurbished the case.
I also lifted the membrame which covers the keypad and cleaned it with very volatile video-head cleaner.

All the buttons are now working well :D
The case now looks allmost new :D
And all the digits are still working....
I have also tuned the watch it ran approx. 0.5 seconds/day too fast.

Another restauration completed. :D
