My Computron has stopped working

Post09 Mar 2010, 21:15

I recently bought a Bulova Computron and it has worked well for the last 2 weeks. Today it suddenly stopped working! I have a very minuscule knowledge about how to change batteries so i put in to brand new 357A cells. It still did not work. Should i have put in 357's instead of 357A??? Is the watch fried or is it something stupid that i just didn't do? Thanks a lot!

357a or 357 shouldn't make a difference in the short term. From what I've read the only difference is the way they discharge.
A = alkaline and drops of slowly the voltage. Regular 357 is silver oxide and lasts longer but drops off quickly when it's about done.

can you measure with a voltmeter your old cells to see if they we
really exhausted ? If they were then you may have disturbed something during the swapover or inserted them the wrong way.

If the old ones still read above 1.45 then there's likely to
be another problem with the watch - quartz crystal maybe ?

Good luck

357A is Alkaline, 357 is Silver Oxide.
Both will work, the latter is more expensive but a better choice for LED watches as it will last longer and the LEDs will be be brighter.

This could be useful: "the do's and dont's on battery replacements for a newbie"

Thanks for all the suggestions. I now think its just a faulty battery because it will keep time as long as i dont use it to much. then it will die for about an hour to 3 then when i try it again it will "Freeze" with some of the number bright and some so dim you can hardly see them. Im going to have to change them soon i guess
