Looks like it could be the quartz crystal has failed, a single digit display is a typical symptom of this, replacing the QC is relatively straight forwards and I am sure the more knowledgeable forum members will chip in soon with further advice.

Until then let me extend a warm welcome to the forum to you. "willkommen"

.. ... or be a little bit more patient and wait for others on the forum to advise you better? ;-)

The QC's can be purchased easily from eBay or Maplin if you are in the UK.

This should be a standard 32,768 khz watch quartz and nothing special. There are different sizes and packages available, so check if they have the same dimensions. Other than that I think your chances are about 20% to bring your watch back to life with a new quartz. Since they are so cheap it´s always worth a try. If the new quartz doesn´t do the trick you can always go for a new SASM40 movement. They will "repair" every watch with a Sanyo module.
