Casio Game 40/401 faulty circuit

Post17 Aug 2016, 09:38

I have a faulty module in a Casio Game 401 (QW245). Most of the functions are fine but the game goes crazy at about level 3 and totally freezes, requiring a AC reset.

Even switching back to time mode while it starts its odd behaviour doesn't fix it and it freezes shortly afterward.

The watch should take a BR2020 (obsolete) and I've tried with a new CR2016 and CR2025 but same behaviour so I doubt it's a battery issue.

Any hints? Or see my Wanted post http://newdwf.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=8331 if you have a working module/circuit for sale.

Definitely an internal failure in the logic circuits so probably unfixable. BR2020 & CR2020 cells are still available (only difference is in the discharge characteristics, BR cells designed to supply small currents for a very long time, CR cells for heavier discharge rates). Putting a CR cell in a BR watch is fine and will cause no damage. I actually put a BR2020 into a watch the other day (a DW-1000) so they are still out there. My BR cells were made by Maxell (Panasonic).

Thanks Tom, it did seem like some deep-seated, non-fixable problem. It took me long enough to find a Game-401, now begins the (even longer?) hunt to find a working circuitboard.

Do you have a source for the Maxell BR-2020s? My usual go-to (eBay) doesn't have any available, nor places like digi-key. Thanks!
