Nixon Heat Q-n-D Button Fix

Post25 May 2025, 19:41

As I have described in my review of the Nixon Heat, this watch has abysmal buttons.

After having seen a couple of YouTube videos showing the inside of Casio digital watches, I started to suspect that the problem was caused by too sloppy tolerances. That is, things have been designed with generous margins in order to facilitate assembly, at the price that they do not work properly.

The factory guarantee is history, and the lack of functionality is really getting on my nerves, so today I decided to see if I could do anything to "enhance" the functionality of the switches.

Fortunately, no rocket science was needed, and the result (before closing the lid) can be seen in the attached picture.

'A' points at the sheet metal tabs being pushed by the button plungers.
'B' points at the sheet metal tabs that the A-tabs should make contact with.
'C' are the rectangular pieces of plastic I have added, to force the B-tabs to be closer to the A-tabs.

The plastic rectangles were scissored out of a 0.32 mm thick window from an underwear box.

My first impression is that the buttons work a lot better now. Time will tell if this is a good long term solution.
