In need of an alarm contact spring? A simple sollution

Post22 Apr 2014, 19:59

Its really simple.
Find a spring bar of which you assume it has the right size spring inside (there are many in different thicknesses. Spring = diameter springbar - thickness bar tube)
Rip out one of its ends, hold it upside down, et voilla: there is your spring.
Gently cut it the right size and your alarm is beeping again.
Not gold plated, so a little more resistance. But your alarm is beeping!

Excellent tip, been doing that for years. Smallest spring bar you can find, for some. Lost one for my m421, created the new spring and found the old spring attached to the mini buzzer magnet after reassembly :bang: .

By the way, no appreciable difference in the conductivity, the gold plate is anti corrosion, not for reduced resistance. Actually gold plating cables seems to be an urban myth when used for improving sound quality in stereo systems, except by those selling them for outrageous prices.

Geoff

P.s. Our b777 have straight canon plug connectors and nothing is gold plated there. You would think avionics required the best lowest resistant connections, but apparently not, due to the fact that there is no payback in quality. Being a dry environment, no need for corrosion coatings either. Just a dab of electronic lubricant, aka DeOxit gold type formulae.
