Qualitron Duo

Post08 Aug 2012, 16:10

Picked up a lovely pair of Qualitron pens from EBay recently which arrived today. I love having the gold and SS versions and this pair came together for £28. Box and instructions are for the SS version so I'll keep a look out for the gold box. None of the refills are working and are the same size. I did think that the LCD version used standard parker refils so I'm wondering if this an early LCD version. Has anyone tried the cross matrix refills successfully or know where to get suitable refills?

Nice acquisition! LED pens are things that I always found curious and particular. They're surely fascinating in their own way!

Thanks VPN. Mick i 've found one of your earlier posts about these pens. Did you find a refil that works?

I did not receive a reply to my question regarding the refill and I have not had the chance to investigate further myself as of yet. It would be a shame if something could not at least be adapted to work as it would be nice to be able to use it for it's intended purpose.

Are these coming from Spain, wasn't there a problem with the led version?

Hi Kasper - yes these are the ones - There were supposed to be 2 segments out on the tens of minutes digit but when it arrived one of them is now working and it still very readable. Hopefully I may be able to get the other missing segment working as well.

Thanks Kasper - at the end of this is a link to another post about refills which includes a link to a manufacturer called Garland in the US that did these refils (#125 short refill for double ended pens) however the link to these refils no longer works and I cannot find them on their website. I have emailed them and if I get a reply will post here.

I have had a response from Garland regarding refils as below.

We have not mfg these pens in many years and no longer have the short refills.

Sorry to say I cannot give you another source for the refills either.

customerservice@garlandpen.com

I'll order some cross matrix refils and post if they work.

Cross matrix refills have arrived and are not really suitable. A previous post stated that you could use an expired original refil and put the cross refil inside but that doesn't look right at all to me. Ah well I will keep looking.

all my boxes are complete with reserve pense.

maybe you should take a pen refill and go to a dedicated penshop in your neighbourhood.

There is a specialist pen centre in the centre of Nottingham so I think I will take a visit next week.
