A humble beginning

Post28 Jul 2004, 15:26

No watches just yet but a couple on the way and my new web page (in progress) dedicated to digital watches.

Looking forward to building up a nice little collection of bright and shiney stuff. :D :D

The first one just arrived (Bulova Drivers), I purchased it as non working. Took it apart just yesterday and noticed there is a small part missing which is needed for a contact on the circuit board leading to the LED display to connect to the watch body. I have working models ariving so I will wait till they get here and compare.

Was it mine nonworking Bulova? It was working a week before auctioning and I never played with it. What was missing? Strange thing?

I think it was but It was my first attempt at repairing and killed it while trying to fix it. I fitted a new module in it and gave it to my son who now wears it out all the time.

Here is my collection so far and currently waiting on Four more watches to arrive. Ebay is so addictive

Although I do not have it advertised I was just today thinking of selling it as I do not wear it. So you can make me an offer, I did list it on Ebay a while back but It only got up to 140 or 160 (cant remember). At that price I decided I would rather keep it :)

I have never seen a black Bulova drivers watch, my guess would be that it was plated with black chrome by a collector/fan. Dont believe they came out of the factory this way, but feel free to correct me when I'm wrong. :D

I remember following your progress on re-constructing the drivers watch andyz4000. Great piece of work. I was even going to put in a bid, but didn't quite get round to it (I also expected it to get far more than the closing value!). I'll leave that for you and ELY_M to haggle over now. How did the Pulsar finish up in the end? Did you get the few badly plated links redone?

I sold the Pulsar Body without the links, the body turned out great and could be used with a nice black leather band but the links were to much hassle for me to get them re-plated

I've chromed a lot of different watch cases (usually older mechanicals) and I've seen many types of plating. The black coating appears to be some sort of powder coating (chroming) as the inside of the case appears non-colored.
