Ipod nano - the watch I'm wearing and using.

Well, I searched, and the previous ipod nano thread was not to be found. Crap. Was only November or December 2011.... I was lusting for one at the time.

Anyway.. I have been wearing this ipod nano because it is just so darn handy, and I love the 18 clock faces (currently using the Nixie tube face.) Some of the faces have moving gears showing in a skeleton fashion - very detailed. The old timer next(left) to is a Syma, 30mm wide. crystal. The ipod jacks directly into the CD/DVD burner/player I have in my amp rack, and the CD player's controls take over the ipod's nicely, so it is a remote control ipod at that point. Sweet!

Oh what else: pedometer, 1/100 stopwatch/timer/lap-counter, photos, music, videos,document transport. 16GB, $139.
Aluminum LunaTik case and silicone band, $30.

The bass is in Vampyre Red - closest thing to an LED crystal.

Btw how fast do you have to recharge it when you wear the watch, if you just uses it as a watch?

I'm still getting used to the "wrist feel" of my Nano watch - it's a bit bulky, very lightweight, has sharp edges and the inset buttons are a little hard to access. I sprung for the Lynk bracelet since I have a strong preference for metal bracelets. I like it for listening to music (it's my favorite MP3 player thus far), but it's not my favorite in terms of wrist feel or style.

Positives:
1) great screen - 220 pixels per inch
2) good functionality - 16 GB of music, nice FM radio interface, good photo viewer, built-in pedometer
3) awesome touch screen - the capacitive touch screen interface is super easy to use
4) designed for music - in this age of hyper-integrated multipurpose gadgets, the Nano is specifically designed for listening to music. I like that.

Negatives
1) size - it would be nice if it were about 75% of its current size
2) weight - It's a bit light as I'm used to stainless steel instead of aluminium
3) buttons - the housing makes the side buttons recessed and difficult to access
5) edges - the housing has hard edges to the left and right sides which are a bit pokey and I'd guess subject to getting dinged up.
6) battery life - rated at 24 hours but more like 6 if you use the display.
7) default screen - when listening to music, the Nano defaults to a screen showing an image of a note, rather than the screen showing the song's current progress bar or the watch screen. This seems kind of useless.

Suggested Improvements:
1) it has a built-in accelerometer for the "shuffle on shake" feature - why not time on shake?
2) size - built an iPod Pico that's 25% to 33% smaller and it would be a great watch. If you could remove the clip, it would be another 33% thinner.
3) forget the camera and more doodads rumored for the next version and work on battery life

If you listen to music, then I'd recommend the Nano watch. I like having my MP3 player on my wrist so I know where it is rather than hunting around in pockets, under the covers etc. As a watch, it's ok, but it's excellent for music.

I would have gone for the green, but the red has a special significance(secret) to me. I have no idea how long it really lasts, as:(A) it takes a nap after 20 seconds of watch display, (b) it starts charging whenever I have it plugged into my boombox or the CD/DVD player in my amp setup.

I would agree with Abe that it would be nice to have a progress bar -as a musician I spend a lot of time backing up and relistening to a passage I want to copy as close to the original as possible.

I like the weight, wish it was lighter. Don't wear it on my wrist much - generally goes into a pocket or my instrument case with the strap over the face. I wouldn't want it any smaller, the display would be totally useless, imo.

I'll worry about the housing when it actually looks shabby...not having any issues with mine, buttons are no issue for me on accessing.

I bought a blue ipod nano today on the local dutch marketplace, almost new.
And i was thinking of converting it to a watch, there are so many nice bracelets to choose from.
My preference would go out to a dark SS bracelet.
The nano did not come with instructions so i am figuring it out on the go.

I have a few questions i hope someone can help me with.
First of all the previous owners first name shows up on the top of the screen in some menu.
How do i change it into my own name?

Second it currently only has two simple analog watch faces, black or white background.
I would love to have the Nixie display and maybe some other cool ones.
How do i get these, are they hidden in a menu, do i need some sort of update or can i upload them
from a pc to the nano?

I beleive the 6th gen ipod nano is no longer in production, so in the future it will be harder to get
And convert it to an mp3 watch.
But it's pretty cool technology for sure.

I have a feeling Apple will have a dedicated watch available in the near future, hope so as the offering from others are not to my liking as a smartwatch.

It would be nice if apple would be working on an iWatch that uses a colour e-paper display. For myself, if it is only a watch without any other feature, it would be perfect as I then know there is nothing in the watch that drains the battery for no reason. An e-paper display (as you know) doesn't need power to keep the display visible and would be great for watch faces now used in the well over-priced Slyde watch:

I am sure a hobby programmer could make a nice app for a future iWatch that costs virtually nothing.

Anyone knows how long the ipod nano battery will last if you only use the watch feature?

I have read all I could find on the Slyde Watch when I first heard about it, if it had a decent screen I could see myself buying it at a reasonable price, around 80% less old technology screen and at retail price it's a joke.
The materials used and the style of the watch are excellent, they just didn't match a great screen to match the rest of the watch.

I really like the E-Ink display in both the Seiko Models but wish the Swiss Brands start using E-Ink display to give us choice in better quality cases and designs, as for color e-ink, now that would be nice
