New acquisition: A039-5019

Post30 Apr 2013, 14:43

I just wanted to share my new find: a Seiko A039-5019 in really excellent condition, with its original black/silver B316 band! It's in almost mint condition, I think the band especially is not easy to find in this condition, as many examples I've seen have had the black paint badly scratched or worn off. This almost makes me scared to wear it, in case I scratch it! I wonder if anyone has attempted a "paint job" on these kinds of black paint Seiko bands?

As you may be aware, the A039 was the first Seiko digital to be produced with an alarm function. According to the 1977 Seiko Japan catalog, the original price was JPY45,000, which is a hefty price when you consider that this is in 1977 prices! It also has one of the loudest alarms I've ever experienced in any watch, with the ability to adjust the alarm volume in two steps. It will take a very proud place in my collection!

Very impressive....
Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable
Some watches, simply are not made to last
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion
Someday perhaps, all watches will be made this way
