Camy suisse lcd 1977 *rare*

Post26 Nov 2014, 22:28

Hi all,

A very nice and rare Camy Geneve 1977 lcd.
time/date/full seconds till 9.59 and a decent light
Lightweight and incredible strong build.

info on Camy : CAMY SWISS WATCH, a leading name in watches. This CAMY line is prepared only in automatic version. CAMY is preparing a new automatic line in the scratchproof Tungstene execution and this version will be available from the summer of 1999. CAMY's main markets are the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Japan

History: Camy Watch SA

The Camy watchmaking brand was initially established in Grenchen before the Stroun brothers moved it to Geneva around 1913 under the name of Camy Watch SA. The Stroun brothers were very active in the watchmaking world. In 1967 the company moved to La Queue-d'Arve in a factory that brought together administrative departments and two watchmaking workshops. These buildings are still there today. The presence of Simone Bédat at Camy is worthy of note. After beginning her apprenticeship at the age of fifteen and a half at the Lang SA watch case factory, she joined the commercial division as office manager and stayed there for about ten years before joining Camy Watch SA in Geneva. It was there that she became right-hand woman to a certain Raymond Weil; who joined the company in 1949, and was to become its director-general. Upon the death of the owner, both of them left Camy and joined together to form the Raymond Weil brand in 1975. But that's another family story, one that is still very much alive.

The bracelet looks a bit like a product from NSA. They made excellent bracelets, especially the clasp was wonderful (not the type in the picture). Could you check that from me, the bracelet should have a triangle somewhere.

The LEDs look especially cool. Are these super rare? Don't think I've seen before

Great catch Kasper...it reminds me my Tissot posted some days ago: same case and module (esa 9315)...fantastic quality! ;-)

Very nice! I can see "all stainless steel" on the back of your watch Kasper, so that means it's not the tungsten carbide stuff my Rado is made of? But a "harder" kind of steel? (higher vickers rating)

Thx ...At last someone knows :-D ...i,ve been having a talk with different people in the background about this material. I never have seen this dark stainless steel before.
Does the rado mention the material on the backplate?
How do we recognize it?

I suppose that my tissot case is the same of yours...but on my back case there's nothing that can help to recognize the material...

Tungsten carbide is very heavy, nice material for special drill bits etc :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tungsten_carbide

It is very difficult to scratch it, so usually it keeps it's scratch free, "glossy" appearance. So the heavy, dark colored bits of the watch should be scratch free :)

By the way, my Rado has no "stainless steel" markings on the back.

Rado is not the only one, my 60's Orient is made of the same material and I've seen Citizen and Seiko watches with tungsten carbide cases.
