Other Collections??

Post30 Mar 2007, 22:38

Does anyone else on this board collect anything else besides digital watches?? I collect old beer cans. Flat top and cone tops from the 30's-60's. If anybody has any and wants to get rid of them contact me. Here are a couple of pics of what I collect

Maybe we could work out a trade. I don't have any cans from Whales, I could trade you a Pulsar 3140-2 or 5140-2 mens LCD watch for a bunch of cans from Great Britian. What do you think?? You can email me at gsratman1@netzero.net Thanks, Greg Ratcliff

Thats great. Try to open the cans from the bottom to keep the tab intact. I use an ice pick or nail for that. And wrap the cans in paper so they don't rub against each other in shipping. After you get some together send me a picture of what you have come up with. Thanks, Greg Ratcliff

Compucron, This isn't a joke. I've been collecting beer cans since the 70's . I have over 2,000 different cans in my collection. These pics are just the latest ones I got off a guy .I have them all displayed on shelves downstairs in my bar room/pool table area. I don't know how many varieties you could come up with from France. I figure 40-50 different cans for one of the watches would be a good deal for me and whoever wants to do it. They would be getting a nice NOS Pulsar for their trouble. I've had my message on the market place board and have only gotten a couple of responces from people, so I thought I'd try something different. Greg R.

Greg,

Out of curiosity how much does one of those old cans hold compared to today’s bottles/cans.

The cans in my pics are all 12 oz but they also made 11 oz, 14 oz, 16 oz quarts and gallons. I'm a member of the Beer Can Collectors of America, we also have quite a few members from Great Britain. I'm sure you could find some older beer cans at garage sale, flea markets or maybe even in old taverns in the basements. I've found old cans in walls of older homes that were being remodeled , under crawl spaces, and basements plus in old dumps. Alot of these cans are high value$$$$ .The cans in my 2 pics range in price value $10- $ 400 per can!!

I'll move back to Greg's original question - what else do you collect? The picture below is what is left of my 1950's and early 1960's "pocket" transistor radio collection. All are in mint condition and in 100 % working order. These are the ones I decided were "must haves", can not bear to part with. I sold off most of my other transistor radios, well over 200+. Also traded some, my Jade Green Regency TR 1, mint and working (I had each color made of the first "pocket"transistor radio ever sold commericially) brought me my Pulsar Date Command!!!

Hi Greg,
I'd like to help but sending 50 empty cans (if I can find them) to USA , will cost more than a Pulsar.
Anyway , if I find anything interesting at a flea market or elsewhere, I'll let you know.

This is a good idea for a thread, I collect Fender and Gibson guitars from 1950 to 1960, my favorites are the very earliest and the ones that have a rockstar interest. This is one of my best, a 1951 Fender that was owned by a few famous people, notably one of my heros Jeff Beck who had it in the eighties, its a good thrill to watch him playing it on videos with Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton...... :D

Compucron, Depending on the value of the cans it could only take 5 or 6 to make a deal. When I said 40 or 50 I meant new cans not the older flat tops or cone tops. If it's the right can only 1 would make the deal. It's all about the value of the cans. I have a couple of friends that know value on the euro cans so if I can get pics to show them they will tell me what the can is worth. Great looking Guitar ! And Richard I like the watches also.

Leddwatch, regarding your guitar collecting, there is a guy that lives near (i believe his name is Chris Brohman), he owns one of Marc Bolans guitars- a flying V- whatever that is :?: He went on the Antique Roadshow with it- along with some of Bolans clothes, a neat thing to own i thought :D

I saw that Antiques roadshow, I managed to just get the bit with Mark Bolans Flying V on it on video, its good..... 50's guitars and Stars guitars are doubling in value every year which is really slowing me down, one of Kieth Richards guitars, a 1959 Les Paul, came up for sale last year, it was the one that he used all through the end of the 60's and recorded 'satisfaction' on, I would have given my spleen for it when the dealer offered it to me, or even a lung, but I just couldnt come up with the required $750,000.
