What is Profectus!!???

Post17 Oct 2010, 13:39

Ok so Im just starting to collect a few LED watches as this site has got me back into them lol....

I have just bought this one for $30

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

Seller has said i can have a refund if it doesnt work which is good :-)

Anyway I just wanted to ask if anyone knew what Profectus was as it states it has a "Profectus Plated" bezel!!!

A quick search on google didnt really tell me much other then that Heuer watches used to use the same material in the 70's!!

If it works it cant be bad for £25 inc shipping :-)

Neat watch. Apparently, the Latin translation for "profectus" is something akin to "advanced":
http://www.myetymology.com/latin/profectus.html

We live on an age where "advanced" is used as a marketing synonym for "good", without specifying what exactly is advanced or why it's better. So, not everything has changed since the 70s.

The modules in these type of Armitron's are bullet proof the best I've come across, the display is totally enclosed in plastic battery corrosion has to be very severe to stop these things from working.

Be careful installing new batteries though the positive & negative are usually not visible on the PCB look for a tapered edge on one battery well this is the negative contact the battery is inserted with the plus facing outwards.

Good looking watch, well done... :-D

Well...... another watch that doesnt work!!!

Anyone got any tips or tricks i can try to get this fired up?

When i received the watch there was some ancient RW25 batteries in it which had leaked badly so i cleaned up all the contacts with my little fibreglass pen and still nothing :-(

Ok, remove the module from the case and carefully prise the plastic carrier off then we can see how bad the corrosion is, it may just need a replacement trimmer and quartz crystal, after a good cleaning that is.
