Bulova Caravelle - What year

Post04 Feb 2012, 05:49

Hello Members,

I picked up this Bulova Caravelle from eBay a few days ago. It is possible some of you saw these NOS cheapies

flying by.

The pictures show the module and the inside of the case, but what I would like to know is about the year of

this model. Where these watches made in the 70's or 80's? Also did Bulova use the Tuning fork symbol on their stock wrist bands? And for what reason.

I used an AG5 battery on this watch, and it worked, but it does look like the LCD's gold-tone has somewhat

washed away.

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about these originally priced $50.00 Bulova Caravelle's it would be much

appreciated.

Thank you,

- Patrick

Not sure if the same holds true for the Caravelle but Bulova date stamped the case back with the date code.........

>>> L >> M >> N >> P >>T
0 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990
1 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991
2 1952 1962 1972 1982 1992
3 1953 1963 1973 1983 1993
4 1954 1964 1974 1984 1994
5 1955 1965 1975 1985 1995
6 1956 1966 1976 1986 1996
7 1957 1967 1977 1987 1997
8 1958 1968 1978 1988 1998
9 1959 1969 1979 1989 1999

..........So 1967 would be stamped M7 on the case back.

Case back states "N8."

So 1978.

Thank you very much Bucko! You are great help.

Nice watch 8-) The condition of the front casing (the bit that matters) looks good!

On the Bulova topic I quite fancy a watch that is as old as me and a Bulova 'Spaceview' would fit the bill nicely, I have never had a 'hummer' before and it would be interesting to hear the sound of one running. They are a little on the pricey side for what I would want to pay but if anyone hears of a cheap M7 going begging drop me a line. ;-)

In 1960 Bulova changed their logo to their revolutionary Accutron tuning fork symbol and it has remained that way up till now. The LCD module rings a bell and looks Hong Kong style to me. In the late 70's Bulova LCD's were sourced from Citizen (then a Bulova joint-venture) and Caravelle watches from other cheaper sources.
