PULSAR original prices back in the seventies.

Post23 Feb 2006, 15:51

Hi,

I am looking for the price list of the Pulsar models back in the seventies(From P1 to P4).
Does anybody know?
What was the price of a P4 in 1977?A P2 in 1972?
:?:

Thanks

I have seen ads in contemporary magazines listing the 2900 at $295. The P1 was initally offered at $2100 [one original owner is reported to have paid a slightly discounted price]. I have a Sep. 1, 1974 price list that no longer lists the 2900 [so, presumably, it was out of production by that time]. Date/Command; stainless $295, GF $395, solid 14K $2000, solid 18K $2500. My Jul. 1, 1976 list shows the stainless Executive at $295 [in either standard or 24HR display]. GF was $395, solid 14K $2000 [no mention of solid 18K; presumably these were special-order only].
How about it, gentlemen? What say we go through our collected paperwork and piece together a continuous list of the Pulsar models and prices? I am curious to see how the price structure evolved, especially toward the end [I am willing to bet there are some surprises in store there...].

I was sure it wouldn't take long to have this list!
Your great Bruce!
But I have another question , how much that makes in constant dollars?
What 295$ from 1974 would be today?

If you really want to find out what your Pulsar would cost [in today's dollars], check out

http://woodrow.mpls.frb.fed.us/Research ... /index.cfm

According to the inflation calculator, your $295 1975 Date/Command would now cost $1110.36. Interestingly, the P1, at $2100 [1972], would still go for $10173 in 2006 dollars, so this model would seem to have held its' value very well indeed.
An interesting look at how the value of the dollar has diminished over the last thirty years [actually the calculator will go back to 1913...the first year of the Federal Reserve...clearly, the value of the watches has held up better than the money that purchased them].
