new crystal for P2

Post18 Apr 2006, 01:31

Hi,
this Fossil watch looks a lot like a P2 and the crystal looks very similar to a P2, does anyone know if it will fit in a P2 :?:

I personally have never tried the experiment; it looks close, but if the size and radius of curvature of the sides are just a few thousandths of an inch off, it won't fit. Original P2 crystals show up occasionally on eBay; typically go for US$30-50, depending on condition...still cheaper than buying a Fossil, going through all the trouble of pulling the crystal, and then finding out it won't do the job...

That fossil has a really poor plastic crystal - it scratches if you even look at it which if far from ideal given that it sticks up about 2mm from the watch.

You can sometimes salvage an old P2 crystal by flipping it over then carefully working the edges to the correct 45 degree angle (finish with jewellers rouge). Check out Azimuths site - i think there are instructions there.

Thanks for this precision, but I don't really need a crystal for my P2 , if I can find one for 30$ like Bruce seems to find sometimes I will change other it will last for a few more years.
It was more theoritical question!

I have done the opposite. I have one of those Fossil's, and the plastic screen got so stratched up from normal use that I actually put a P2 crystal in it. I had to sand some of the highth off from the Pulsar crystal, but it did work. They are very close in size. I would warn you that if you use the Fossil crystal in your Pulsar, you will wish you hadn't.
