Ok folks - my first Mark IV (?).

I've found the write up on opening the redback - anything similar for the blackback?

I have some power idea's I'd like to try out if this lights up on 3 volt.

Cheers and best wishes.

: Cracking the egg

Hi Dexter,

Welcome to the forum! I've heard the red bottoms are easier to open than the black ones. I have a MkIII/IV Sunwatch that I managed to open it using a large Olfa boxcutter along the seams. It took ~2 hours, but I wanted to be careful. The one place to watch out for is the front where the display is. If you go in too far, you will damage the display. HTH!

Hey Sully - thanks, very much looking forward to this project.

Can you say how the black bottoms were bonded? Are they also lexan or another plastic?

I have been looking at a Japanese site and it appears that he was able to lift the blackbottom by working a very fine needle into the seam and then - well - I couldn't say because of course it's all Japanese to me..

Jon,

I can only assume that the blacks are bonded the same as the reds. AFAIK, they are both made of lexan. I just ran the blade along the seams until it cut through.
