Darwil LED Chrono with Frontier 2006 stopwatch module

Post15 Jan 2020, 11:40

Hi,
I just bought from Eastern Europe a relatively unknown Darwil Chrono LED watch with a Frontier 2006 module.
The watch is working well and it is in relatively good condition.

I know already that the led watches with chronograph/stopwatch function are relatively rare, the first such watches being the Heuer Chronosplit, HP-01 and various brands that have used the Frontier 2006 module: the most famous ones being Breitling 9106, Sicura ChronoFlash 1247 and Hamilton/Vantage.

Do You have such LED watches and under which watch brand?
What is Your experience with them, are Frontier 2006 reliable LED modules?

Thanks in advance for Your kind answers,
:dwf:
The Darwil Chrono led I just bought:

Very nice, how do you enable the Chrono functions? And does the display turn off after awhile? The HP-01 display will stay on for the duration of the time measurement. So you have to make sure you don't leave it be after starting the stopwatch else it will deplete the batteries.

Hi,
the chrono/stopwatch function is started by using the 10 o'clock button and the stop/reset button is at 9.
Also, the display is turned off after few seconds of using the chrono and revived when you press the stop/reset button.
It is also a 6 functions led watch:hour, minutes, seconds, day, month, day of the week :-D
Regards,

Also, the timeline of apparition of the LED based wristwatches with chronograph/stopwatch functions seems to be:
1. Heuer LCD/LED ChronoSplit - 1975 at spring time BAsle Fair 1975, just before the FIRST LCD based Seiko 0634 Chronograph launched in June 1975
https://doensen.home.xs4all.nl/q6.html
This make the Heuer Chronosplit the FIRST electronic/digital wristwatch with chrono/stopwatch function!!!
2. Breitling Navitimer 9106, using Frontier 2006 module - 1976
http://www.digital-watch.com/DWL/1work/breitling-9106-navitimer-led-watch
2a. Various brands using the Frontier 2006 LED module (Sicura, Hamilton/Vantage, Lanco, Darwil etc LED chronographs) - cca 1976-1978

https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/sicura-chronoflash-vintage-e-quartz-1618640168
3. HP 01 LED calculator watch, with chrono/stopwatch function- 1977
https://doensen.home.xs4all.nl/q1.html
4. Synchronar Mark IV, the first Synchronar variant with chrono/dual stopwatch function -1982

etc etc
Please feel free to correct me, if You have a more accurate information about this timeline of apparition :-D

Thanks Mr. Babanin for the nice photos.
Your Exonix chrono LED module seems to be - based on the buttons configuration- the same/a similar module with that used in the ultra rare URANUS LED Chronograph.

May You suggest a apparition timeline for it? May it be the year 1976?
Because the Uranus LED calculator watch appeared in Popular Science magazine of December, 1976, where are mentioned also "at least half-dozen of digitals - both LED and LCD" that "combined elaborate stopwatches with basic four, five or six-function watches".

Thanks again,

I consider Perrin is from 1975-1976, not end of 1976. There was revolution in technologies, USA made module and Swiss made case, ceramic base, plastic shield for chip instead if compound.
By the way the inking on the chip cover tells us about 02.76 :)
